Benjamin Wilson, MD joined Woolfson Eye Institute in August, 2021, as a board certified referral ophthalmologist who will concentrate on cataract surgery, as well as other eye problems referred into the Asheville, North Carolina and the Johnson City, Tennessee offices.
Dr. Wilson is a board certified comprehensive ophthalmologist, who has experience in cataract surgery including a procedure known as “minimally invasive glaucoma surgery” (MIGS). In MIGS, glaucoma is treated simultaneously while a patient is undergoing cataract removal and intraocular lens implantation.
Jonathan Woolfson, MD, the practice founder and president, sees Dr. Wilson as a likely candidate to take over some of his own LASIK responsibilities in the region, as the practice and number of cases continue to grow.
Born in Florida, Dr. Wilson attended University of Florida for his bachelor’s degree in Microbiology and Cell Science. For medical school he attended University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. His Intern year was done at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown followed by ophthalmology residency at the State University of New York Downstate in Brooklyn.
When not performing cataract surgery, Dr. Wilson enjoys mountain biking, skiing, and hiking.
