Dr. Daniel Malach, MD is a board-certified Ophthalmologist practicing at the Metropolitan Eye Center in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. Dr. Malach was born and raised in Southeast Michigan. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, graduating with honors. He then attended medical school at the Wayne State University School of Medicine, also graduating with honors. During his time in medical school, he placed a strong emphasis on education and research. He was recognized for his work ethic by being awarded the Prentis Endowed Scholarship, the Robert Fraser Endowed Scholarship in Ophthalmology, as well as the Outstanding Ophthalmology Research Award. Dr. Malach displays a strong compassion for patient outcomes, and was selected for the Gold Humanism Honor Society in his final year of medical school, awarded to medical students who emphasize compassion, collaboration, and scientific excellence. Following medical school, he completed a transitional year residency at Beaumont Hospital Dearborn, where he was elected Chief Resident by his colleagues and program leadership.
Dr. Malach then completed his residency training in Ophthalmology at the renowned Kresge Eye Institute in Detroit. During his residency, he was honored by his peers with the Golden Apple award for Outstanding Resident Teacher and was later elected as Chief Resident. Dr. Malach presented several research papers on cataract surgery outcomes and glaucoma at the annual meetings of the American Academy of Ophthalmology as well as ARVO.
Dr. Malach specializes in refractive cataract surgery with an emphasis on utilizing the latest technology for his patients. He uses state-of-the-art laser guided cataract surgery and advanced technology lens implants to reduce or eliminate the need for glasses after surgery. He was one of the first surgeons in the state of Michigan to implant the new Light Adjustable Lens by RxSight, the first fully adjustable lens for cataract surgery patients. Dr. Malach is on the cutting edge of modern minimally invasive techniques to treat glaucoma and reduce or eliminate the need for glaucoma eye drops by performing micro-invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS).
Outside of the office, Dr. Malach enjoys spending time with his wife and their rescue dog Bo, as well as traveling, tennis, golf, cooking and live music.
