Dr. Jay Rudd is a Refractive/Cataract Surgeon located in Lacey, Washington.
He has been providing Premium Cataract Surgery to patients in the Thurston County region for the past 24 years. He approaches cataract surgery the same way he treats his LASIK/Refractive Lens Exchange patients, with a goal to help them achieve visual freedom from glasses.
Dr. Rudd received his bachelor of science in kinesiology from the University of California, Los Angeles. He earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College, graduating magna cum laude. For his ophthalmology residency, he stayed in Philadelphia to train at the world-renowned Wills Eye Hospital. Following residency, Dr. Rudd underwent subspecialty training in cornea/refractive surgery at the John A. Moran Eye Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Dr. Rudd made the move to Olympia, Washington in 2000, returning to the West Coast and started working in private practice as Thurston County’s first Refractive Surgery Specialist. His professional interests are in the field of cataract and refractive surgery using state-of-the-art technology for laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK), implantable collamer lenses (Evo ICL), refractive lens exchange, laser-assisted cataract surgery and multifocal lens implants. Dr. Rudd has participated in many FDA trials studying the latest technology with advanced intraocular lens design.
Outside of work, Dr. Rudd commits time to community philanthropy, serving on many non-profit boards, including Providence St. Peter Hospital, Saint Martin’s University, Pope John Paul II High School, St. Michael Parish School, Hand-on Children’s Museum, along with traveling internationally for charitable medical missions. He and his wife, Carla, received recognition for their philanthropic efforts, including the 2012 Archdiocese of Seattle’s Archbishop Award and South Sound Partners in Philanthropy’s Couple of the Year in 2013. Dr. Rudd and Carla have three children — Justin, Allyson, and Lindsay – and are proud to call Olympia home.
