One of the primary factors that led me to choose ophthalmology as a specialty was the ability to tangibly benefit my patients. On a mission trip to Haiti, and even here in the USA, the look on a previously blind patient’s face when they can suddenly see after cataract surgery is priceless.
That ability to restore sight remains my primary goal. However, we can now do that with so much more precision and safety than in years past. In my thirty plus years of doing cataract surgery, there has never been a more exciting time. The simplicity and safety of our modern techniques, combined with the precision offered by our current methods of predicting intraocular lens powers, have truly revolutionized what I can deliver for my cataract patients. Throw in the premium intraocular lens offerings that we can now provide, and this is no longer your grandmother’s cataract surgery. We can now implant lenses that correct astigmatism, allow patients to read, see the computer, and see far away – all without glasses. And we can do it in less than ten minutes per eye!
At Westfield Eye Center since 2001, I specialize in general ophthalmology, including cataract surgery, glaucoma treatment and surgery, diabetic retinopathy treatment, and medically oriented eye examinations. I remain committed to the principles of honesty, compassion, and caring that brought me to medicine in the first place, and I always strive to deliver the best for my patients.
