One of the primary factors that led me to choose ophthalmology as a specialty was the ability to tangibly benefit my patients. On a mission trip to Haiti, and even here in the USA, the look on a previously blind patient’s face when they can suddenly see after cataract surgery is priceless.
That ability to restore sight remains my primary goal. However, we can now do that with so much more precision and safety than in years past.
