Dr. Hickman is a graduate of Lawrence High School and the University of Kansas. He attended medical school at the University of Hawai’i, did his internship at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City, and residency in ophthalmology at the University of Missouri, Kansas City. He is the founder and medical director of Ad Astra Eye in Lawrence and Olathe, Kansas since 2016.
Scott’s outside interests involved global ophthalmology, wilderness medicine, and outside endeavors with his wife and three children.
He is a former Peace Corps Volunteer in Mauritania, West Africa, a graduate of the London School of Hygiene’s Public Health for Eye Care Program, and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Global Education and Outreach Committee. In addition he has taken surgical trips to the Congo, Ghana, Kenya, India, Nepal, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic. He is a frequent speaker on global ophthalmology and surgery.
He has completed the Diploma of Mountain Medicine from the Wilderness Medical Society, and is a proud finisher of the New York City Marathon, the Dirty Kanza 200 and the Dirty Reiver 130. He is currently the incoming president of the Kansas City Society of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology and a Volunteer Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Kansas.
