Dr. David O’Day is a highly trained corneal, cataract and refractive surgeon, with expertise in the most advanced techniques of corneal, cataract and vision correction surgeries and over 25 years of practice experience. He is an Atlanta, Georgia native, and has traveled around the country to receive a well-rounded education and the highest quality professional training obtainable. He has applied this training since 1993 in both academic and private ophthalmologic practice settings, with subspecialty focus on corneal, cataract and refractive surgery.
Dr. O’Day completed his undergraduate studies at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, graduating cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. He went on to Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. for graduate and professional studies, first completing a Master of Science in Physiology and then a Doctorate in Medicine. After serving a four-year stint in the U.S. Navy as a general medical doctor, he was admitted to Emory University Eye Center, where he completed a three-year residency at one of the Top 10 Eye Residency Programs in the country in 1992. He went on to complete a dual Cornea and External Eye Diseases and Refractive Surgery Fellowship at the University of Minnesota and the Phillips Eye Institute. His first position out of training was at Case Western University Department of Ophthalmology in Cleveland, Ohio where he served as a full-time member of the academic cornea faculty and the Director of Refractive Surgery Service from 1993 to 1996. Dr. O’Day then moved on to practicing full-time at his private practice in Charleston, South Carolina and has been there since September 1996.
Dr. O’Day is devoted to providing the highest quality medical and surgical eye care to his patients. He has performed thousands of complicated microsurgical procedures to restore eyesight and correct serious vision problems. He also has successfully performed well over 100,000 LASIK procedures during his career, making him one of the most experienced and sought after LASIK surgeons in the country. In addition to this, he has an active refractive cataract surgery practice, where he uses the latest intraocular lens implants to give patients the best vision possible at any distance. Dr. O’Day has proven that it is his reputation, training credentials, and experience that set him apart from the ophthalmology field.
