Board-certified ophthalmologist and Yale fellowship-trained Dr. Omar Shakir, MD MBA, brings a decade of experience in eye care to Coastal Eye Surgeons, located in Greenwich, Connecticut, serving patients throughout Fairfield County and Westchester County.
Dr. Shakir is the founding partner of Coastal Eye Surgeons and specializes in cataract and retinal surgery. He is also a Clinical Instructor at Yale University. Dr. Shakir obtained his Doctor of Medicine from Albany Medical College in Albany, New York, followed by an internship at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. He subsequently completed a residency at the University of Florida followed by a prestigious two-year vitreous and retina surgery fellowship at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut.
Dr. Shakir grew up in Florida near Cape Canaveral on the Space Coast. Before pursuing a career in ophthalmology, he played Division III college baseball at Union College in Schenectady, New York.
At Coastal Eye Surgeons, Dr. Shakir provides a boutique-style setting that features the latest technologies and always puts patients first. He performs all treatments in office and tailors care to each individual’s unique health history and concerns.
Dr. Shakir and the team provide a full suite of surgical services, including laser cataract surgery, retinal detachment repair, macular hole repair, epiretinal membrane peel, diabetic retinopathy and vitrectomy, glaucoma drainage devices and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, floater removal, intraocular lens implant and secondary lens implant.
Dr. Shakir is the first in the world to perform many types of eye surgery in the office. He is the pioneer of office-based retina surgery which provides a uniquely comfortable and boutique experience for his patients.
